Sixth Street Viaduct, Los Angeles, CA
The Sixth Street Viaduct Project was the largest bridge undertaking in Los Angeles history, with a $588 million budget and a bold vision to replace the original structure with a modern, multi-use viaduct. Spanning 3,500 feet in length and 100 feet in width, the new bridge crossed 18 active railroad tracks operated by five rail agencies. Beyond improved traffic flow, the project prioritized safety, accessibility, and community, introducing 12 acres of open space featuring bike and pedestrian paths, an arts plaza, and public art installations.
CL Survey played a key role in the project’s execution, contracted by the general contractor to provide comprehensive construction staking services. Their scope included pile and falsework layouts, arch span positioning, quality control surveys, pre- and post-construction as-builts, control network establishment, terrestrial LiDAR scanning, and monument preservation—ensuring the project was built with precision from the ground up.
